8 Reasons Why You Should See the Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur

Also known as Taman Tasik Perdana in Malay, the Perdana Lake Gardens are the first public park in Kuala Lumpur. The site was opened to public on May 1, 1975 with a ceremony headed by the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Haji Abdul Razak Hussein. Built around two inland lakes and surrounded by many of the city’s top attractions, the garden is perfect for recreational activities like jogging, brisk-walking, group exercises, picnics and many others.

Aside from the jogging trails and walking paths, this huge park covering an area of about 92 hectares also houses several attractions within. And those are the top reasons why you should visit the park.

WHY YOU SHOULD GO VISIT THE PARK

The Orchid Garden. The Orchid Garden is home to 800 species of orchids found in the country. The bright colors of orchids of different sizes and shapes provide a nice backdrop for pictures. You can even purchase an orchid and develop your own nursery at home!
The Hibiscus Garden. In this garden, you’ll find many varieties of the national flower of Malaysia, hibiscus. The hibiscus or “Bunga Raya” to locals is sold every weekend from the garden. If you already have a garden at home, consider adding hibiscus and learn how to grow them from growers you’ll meet right in the park.
The Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park. Experience walking around a walk-in cage with over 6,000 butterflies flying around you. The more than 120 species of butterflies found in Malaysia can be seen from this park. There’s also a museum of insects and souvenir shops to buy charming butterfly souvenirs for your loved ones back home.
The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. This is the largest aviary park in the country, with more than 3,000 birds of different species found within. The birds are roaming freely in the park, which makes it one of the top must-visits of many tourists.
The Deer Park. Deer from Holland roam this park. You can take photographs, feed the animals and observe deer of different sizes.
The Memorial Tun Abdul Razak. An area dedicated to the second Prime Minister of Malaysia can be found in the park as well.
The Masjid Negara. A mosque with an interesting roof design. In the mosque you’ll find guides willing to show you around the place for absolutely nothing.
The Panggung Anniversary. There is also a place in the park where you can see cultural performances by various local artists wearing traditional dresses. There are also modern performances held, so it’s a place certainly worth your time.

HOW TO GET THERE

To get to the Lake Gardens, take the KTM Komuter and get off at Bank Negara station, From the station, you have to walk about 18 to 25 minutes to get to the entrance. Enter through the National Monumentin Jalan Parlimen entrance or through the National Mosque in Jalan Perdana.

You can also take a taxi and tell the diver to drop you off at the Lake Gardens.
